Memorize and Reflect

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. (1 Corinthians 12:11)

Prayer Direction

Pray that you will use your gifts in a way that blesses and serves other people. Ask for deep and genuine humility as you serve Jesus and others with the gifts God has given you. Ask God to grow His love in you so you can use your gifts in the right spirit.

“Live It!” Challenge

Attitude Check - Take time to think through the attitude you have about your area of service. Are you joyful and thankful? Are you prone to complain and be negative? Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of any negativity and grow a joyful attitude in you as you serve.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time you watched someone do something with a sour and negative attitude. They had an “I’ll do it because no one else will, and I will grumble along the way” attitude. How did their attitude affect the way they served? How did their negative attitude impact the way other people viewed their acts of service?

  2. Tell about a person you watched serve with a joyful disposition. How did their attitude impact their service? What did their joy communicate to the people who saw them serving?

  3. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:7 How have you seen the use of spiritual gifts strengthen the church and bring blessing to people in the local church? Give examples of specific spiritual gifts being used.

  4. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 How is the human body connected and why is each part important? How is this similar to the spiritual body of Christ (the Church)?

  5. Read: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 What are the different characteristics of love and how can each of these help us use our gifts together as the body of Christ?

  6. Which of these characteristics do you need to grow in your life and what steps can you take to love more as you use the gifts God has given you?

  7. Why is a joyful attitude essential as we serve Jesus together in the church? What are some of the dangerous consequences if we don’t serve with a joyful heart?

  8. Read: 1 Peter 4:11 Tell about how you have felt the power of Jesus fill you and flow through you as you have used your God-given gifts to serve inside and outside of the church.

  9. How does the use of our spiritual gifts bring glory to God? Why should this motivate us to discover, develop, and use our gifts more freely and boldly?
