Memorize and Reflect

"Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Sprit through the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:2-3)

Prayer Direction

Pray for clarity in those areas in which your patience is lacking. When the temptation comes to give up on or go ahead of God’s plans for you, ask Him to remind you of His steadfast love and patience displayed as He waited for you to come to Him. (2 Peter 3:15)

“Live It!” Challenge

Heart Check: When you catch your patience being tested, stop for a heart check. What is the root issue: Are you agitated with someone? Are you frustrated over a certain situation? Are you impatient due to unrealistic expectations? Step back and ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and perspective.

Small Group Discussion

  1. This week’s focus on the Holy Spirit considered His aspect of Unity.
Read: Philippians 2:1-4 with Community in mind.
What encouragement have you received from being united with Christ?
What comfort have you experienced because of His love expressed through others?
How would you describe your common ‘fellowship with The Spirit’ of God? What would enhance it?
What would you say is the overriding quality Paul is encouraging to promote unity?

  2. Where do you stand in relation to viewing living out the fruit of The Spirit as either Duty or Delight? What difference does it make holding to either perspective?

  3. Read: 1 Timothy 1:12-20
How does Paul establish both his authority and humility?
What qualities do you see exercised by Jesus in VV.15-16?
Who are the beneficiaries of the qualities?
How might these truths keep Timothy on the right course in the face of opposition from false teachers?
What word would you use to describe your life before you became a Christian? Since then?
What does that show you about the Lord’s patience?
