Memorize and Reflect

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. (John 13:14-15)

Prayer Direction

Thank Jesus for serving you through His life, death, and daily reminders of His love. Ask for eyes to see needs around you and for a humble heart that is ready to serve others as Jesus did. Offer God the gifts He has placed in you and commit to develop and use your spiritual gifts for His glory.

“Live It!” Challenge

Foot Washing Look closely at your home, workplace, school, or some other place you spend a lot of time. Try to identify specific acts of service that would look like foot washing looked in the days of Jesus. Then, freely and humbly offer this service to a person or group, praying that God will receive all the glory.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a person who has been a consistent example of humble service in your life. How have you seen Jesus in this person? What do you learn from their example?

  2. What are the things that get in the way of us living lives of humble service? How can we learn to overcome these obstacles?

  3. Read: John 13:1-17 What do you learn about Jesus in this passage? (How he viewed himself…how he saw the disciples… how he saw service)

  4. What is Jesus seeking to teach His followers in this passage (be sure to dig deep beyond the obvious answers)?

  5. How does a life of humble service bless God, the people we serve, and how does it bless us

  6. Read: 1 Peter 4:10-11 If you know what your spiritual gift (or gifts) is, share this with your group. Share one or two ways you have used this gift to bring glory to God.

  7. What are ways we can develop our spiritual gifts and use them even more fully for the glory of Jesus?

  8. How can a life of humble service open the door for sharing the love and power of Jesus in our world?

  9. What is one service opportunity you have noticed but not yet acted on? How can your group members pray for you and encourage you to step out and begin serving in this area of your life? (It can be at home, work, school, church, among friends, in the community…anywhere)
