Reflecting on the Most Recent Sermon
Sermon Series: Victory Sermon Title: Victory Over Death and the Grave
Delivered On: March 27, 2016
While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! ([bible]Luke 24:4-6[/bible])
Praise Jesus for bearing your sin, carrying your cross, and taking away your shame! Celebrate how your life has changed because Jesus is risen.
Simple Testimony – Look for an opportunity, in the coming week, to share one thing you learned about the victory of Jesus (Easter and the empty tomb) with one person in your life who is not a follower of Jesus. Do this outreach organically. Tell one person about how your life has changed since you accepted the risen Jesus as the leader of your life, the forgiver of your sins, and your closest friend.
Small Group Discussion
Tell about what Easter means to you and how the resurrection of Jesus gives you hope and strength in the flow of a normal day.
Read: Isaiah 53
What does this prophetic passage teach us about Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and what do you learn about Jesus as the final sacrifice for our sins?
What does this chapter of the Bible teach us about ourselves, our spiritual need, and how we can be changed by the power of Jesus?
Read: 1 Corinthians 15:42-58
Because Jesus rose from the dead for us, we will also be raised if we place our faith in Jesus. What kind of change and transformation will we experience when we are raised? What do you look forward to when you think of the resurrection and being with God is heaven?
We are promised victory in Jesus because of His death and resurrection. What are ways we can walk in that victory now and in this life? How will that victory be fully experienced when this life ends and we see Jesus face to face?
Read: John 11:17-43 (This is a long passage, but read it slowly and reflectively)
Talk about Mary and Martha’s response to Jesus and how honest they were. Why do you think they responded the way they did? How can we be like Mary and Martha?
How did Jesus respond to these two women that he cared so much about? How would their faith have deepened and strengthened after Jesus rose their brother from the dead?
How is our faith strengthened when we focus on the empty tomb and remember that Jesus rose? How do we grow even deeper in faith when we experience and encounter the risen Jesus Christ in our life today?
Read: Romans 6:1-14
What does it mean for us to die to sin and live in the resurrection power of Jesus? What helps us leave sin and walk toward the life Jesus has planned for us?
How can your group members pray for you and support you in one specific area of your life where you need to die to sin and live a new life in the resurrection power of Jesus?
