Memorize and Reflect

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Prayer Direction

Thank God for His faithfulness and fulfillment of His promises. Praise His name and His sovereignty among the nations and throughout all generations. Ask God to show you in a powerful way this week the reality and presence of Jesus Christ as His promise for you to give you hope, peace, and strength during all times of your life. Thank Him for the gift of Jesus that has guaranteed our salvation and eternal life in His presence.

“Live It!” Challenge

Are you struggling in your understanding of God’s faithfulness and love for you because of your past or present circumstances? Are you fully embracing His promise of Jesus and the promises of Jesus to give you hope for eternal life, peace in the midst of troubling times, and strength in times of adversity and weakness? Ask Jesus to provide you a fresh outpouring of His Spirit to allow you to fully live in the confidence of His promises.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Read: Jeremiah 29:11 How often have you heard this verse and in what context? Who is speaking in the verse? What one word within the verse do most people consider a guarantee of success, popularity, and financial blessing? Why are people so quick to take verse 11 by itself? Is this verse universally applicable to us because it is in the Bible?

  2. Read: Jeremiah 29:4-14 What is the historical context of what is occurring? Was God promising an immediate change in the conditions of the people of Judah and Jerusalem? What did He promise?

  3. Read: Jeremiah 28 What was the major conflict between Jeremiah and the false prophet Hananiah? Why is this important in understanding God’s message through Jeremiah in Jeremiah 29:10-14? Do we tend to receive and believe news that makes our life easier or news that challenges us to lean more on God?

  4. Read: Jeremiah 7:21-29 What were the people doing and what was the result of their disobedience of God’s commands?

  5. Read: Jeremiah 11:1-8 What were the terms of the covenant between the people of Israel and God? How had they upheld their covenant promise? What was the result of God’s judgment upon the nation of Judah? (Jeremiah 24)

  6. What encouragement do we have in the following verses and how does Jesus fulfill the punishment we deserve for our rebellion (sin)? 2 Corinthians 1:20 , Ephesians 1:7 , Titus 3:4-7

  7. What does Jesus promise us when (not if) we face hardships or trying times? (John 16:33)

  8. What encouragement does Paul give us in Philippians 4:11-13 when we are facing times of struggle, hardships or adversity?

  9. How does this better understanding of Jeremiah 29:11 help you experience God and His faithfulness revealed in the promise of Jesus Christ?
