Memorize and Reflect

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you see and identify Satan’s tactics, in general, and his specific ways of tempting and enticing you to sin. Confess the areas of life where you are easily drawn into sinful and rebellious actions and attitudes. Pray for discipline to read, study, and follow God’s Word at a new level of devotion.

“Live It!” Challenge

Battle Preparation – Commit to read, and pray through, Ephesians 6:10-20 every morning (first thing) for the next thirty days. As you pray through this powerful portion of the Bible, picture yourself putting on the armor of God and taking the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God as you get ready to go into your day.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What are some of the common tactics you see Satan using in our world and culture to draw people into sin and rebellion against God?

  2. How do some people mock Satan, deny the existence of Satan, or take him too lightly? What are some dangerous consequences if we don’t take Satan seriously?

  3. How do some people get paranoid of spiritual attack, over-emphasize the strength of the enemy, and become too fearful or paralyzed by thoughts of our spiritual enemy? Why is this excessive attitude unhelpful in our spiritual battles?

  4. Read: Genesis 3:1-12
What are ways that Satan is saying, “Did God really say?” in our world and culture today? Why is knowing the Bible and believing it is true the best way to fight this tactic of the enemy?

  5. Why is it critical that we focus on and see the consequences that will come from our sinful choices? How can thinking about consequences help us resist the temptation to sin?

  6. What are ways we run from God when we have fallen into sinful patterns and choices? Why is it essential that we run to God in these times and not away from God?

  7. Read: Ephesians 6:10-17
Why is the Bible a sword for our spiritual battles? How can we become more effective with this weapon God has given us? What do you do to grow in knowledge of and obedience to God’s Word?

  8. How is prayer a key to walking in victory? How can we grow as people of prayer and enter the battle on our knees and in passionate prayer?

  9. Describe how prayer is part of a normal day in your life. How can you grow as a person of prayer and increase your commitment to seek God’s presence and power in prayer?
