Sermon Series: Promises Sermon Title: My Peace I Give You
Delivered On: March 19, 2017
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. ([bible]John 16:33[/bible])
Pray for communion with God. Ask God to connect with you, to draw you close, to show you Scripture that soothes and guides. Let him direct you into fellowship, if you’re not yet there. If you are, embrace it, share, and grow in Him!
Commit to catch yourself daily if you find peace slipping away. Check on your trust level, prayer action, Bible reading, and fellowship. These things remind us of the peace we have. Renew them daily, and the peace comes.
Small Group Discussion
What do promises mean to you? Do you take them seriously? Does the world?
Has anyone broken a promise to you? What happened, and how did you feel about it?
Romans 5 tells us that “Therefore since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ….”. Talk about how that works, “through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Does the peace of Jesus differ from any other peace you’ve experienced? How?
When you have traditionally thought of “peace” in general, what were you thinking of? Was it different before you were a Christian?
What kinds of things do you do to draw close to Jesus? Share them so all can learn from each other.
If you have favorite Scriptures talking about peace, share them in the group and discuss.
How has being in fellowship, Bible study, and prayer led to a deeper sense of peace?
If you struggle with peace in spite of doing all you know how to do, share with the group and walk through it together.
