Memorize and Reflect
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. (Psalm 40:1)Prayer Direction
Ask God to help you learn to wait on Him, even in the times you are tempted to do things your own way. Declare your trust in God. Let Him know that you believe in Him and hold to Him, even when situations make you feel like He is far away. Cry to God for help and ask Him to deliver you!“Live It!” Challenge
Praising While Waiting - Identify one area of your life where you have been finding it hard to wait on Him. Then, take ten minutes to praise God for the blessings you have and the work God is doing on your behalf in this area of your Life. While you wait, commit to praise and see how this changes your heart and your situation.Small Group Discussion
Tell about a tough situation you are facing in your life right now, or a difficult situation someone you love is going through. How is your faith helping you as you walk through this time or how is your faith being challenged or stretched?
Read: Psalm 40:1-3 What makes it hard for you to wait patiently for the Lord to move and work?
Tell about a time God showed up, rescued you, and lifted you from the muck and mire you were in. How did you praise and lift God up when He delivered you?
Read: Psalm 40:4-5 What are some of the ways we turn to people, false gods (things that promise to satisfy us but do not deliver on their promise), and even rely on ourselves in hard times? What are ways we can turn to God more and to these other options less?
Read: Psalm 40:6-10 When we are in hard times, it is easy to justify sinful behaviors and compromise. Why do you think this is, and why is this so dangerous?
Why is it so important that we fill our hearts and minds with God’s Word in the hard times of life? What are ways we can keep God’s Word in the center of our lives in the hard times?
Read: Psalm 40:12-15 David was bold to cry out to God for help, deliverance, and even God’s power over his enemies. What are some of the ways we can pray for God’s delivering power and victory over our enemies (think about enemies in broad terms: people, sickness, the devil, temptation, anything that is attacking you).
Read: Psalm 40:16-17 Take a moment and write down five things about God that you can rejoice in, no matter what you are facing. Share your list with your group and explain why you can hold to these no matter how good or bad life seems.
How can your group members be praying for you and supporting you as you walk through a hard or challenging time?
