Memorize and Reflect

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.(Acts 7:59-60)

Prayer Direction

Take time to pray for yourself in any role of leadership you might have. Pray that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit, wise, and responsible. Lift up a Shoreline pastors, directors, or staff member each day for the coming week. Thank God for a specific leader who has influenced your growth in faith.

“Live It!” Challenge

Lifting Up The Next Generation Take time this coming week to pray for Tyler (Student Ministries Pastor) and Danny (Student Ministries Director). Ask the Holy Spirit to empower and guide them as they invest in our middle school and high school students as well as in our youth volunteers. Consider writing each of them a note of encouragement and let them know you are praying for them.

Small Group Discussion

Tell about one Christian leader who has impacted your journey of faith and helped you follow Jesus. What characteristic/behavior marked this person’s life and made them effective as a leader.
Read: Acts 6:1-7. Tell about a time you experienced conflict popping up right in the middle of a good season of life? What skills and actions were needed to navigate this situation?
The early church was clear that leaders needed to be full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. What dangers might be on the horizon if a Christian leader is lacking one or both of these characteristics? How can these qualities help us as we lead in the normal situations of life?
The apostles delegated responsibilities to new leaders in the church. Why is delegation so important for leaders in a growing or large church? What are some possible dangers if a leader is not willing to delegate some of the church responsibilities?
Read: Acts 8:26-40. Describe specific ways you have experienced God directing and guiding your life (through the Bible, people, situations, whispers of the Spirit, or some other way).
Philip was able to explain the meaning of the Scriptures to a person who was spiritually hungry. What do you do to keep growing in your knowledge of the Bible and your obedience in following what the Bible teaches? How can your group members encourage you and keep you accountable to be growing in God’s Word?
If someone asked you, what do you believe about Jesus? Do you feel you could tell the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in a way that would unfold the saving message of Jesus? If so, would you be willing to take 3-4 minutes and share this story with the group?
Read: Acts 9:1-6. This murderous and angry man, Saul, became one of the key leaders in the early Church and one of the main writers of the New Testament. Why do you think God used such a rebel and sinner to do so many important things?
Saul had a lot to learn about following Jesus and God sent some great leaders to influence him. Tell about one person God is using you to influence and help grow more mature in life and faith. How can your group members support you and cheer you on as you seek to be an influence in the life of this person?
Paul understood that great leaders are great followers. He was willing to learn from a number of other leaders in the early church. Who is giving leadership in your life and how are you growing in faith as you learn from this person?
