Memorize and Reflect

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Prayer Direction

Pray for insight about your personal health. Ask God to show you the areas in which you are not caring for your health as well as you should. Ask for strength, perseverance, and patience as you take steps to improve your health.

“Live It!” Challenge

Take small steps: Identify three small steps you can take this week to begin to get a GRIP on your health. Share these steps with someone who will encourage and support you. Then TAKE ACTION!

Small Group Discussion

  1. Name one goal you have set concerning your physical health that you have kept. How has this commitment improved your quality of life? What is one you have not kept, and how have you regretted this?

  2. Read: Romans 12:1–2 and 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
What does it mean to “offer our bodies as living sacrifices”? How is this an expression of worship?

  3. 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 says the Holy Spirit of God actually lives within each follower of Christ. The apostle Paul reminds us of the price God paid for us (the blood of Jesus). With this in mind, we are told to “honor God with your body.” What are examples of honoring God with your body? What are examples of dishonoring God with your body?

  4. One way God shows His concern for your body is through providing for your needs. Finish this statement: “God has provided for my physical well-being by . . .”

  5. If your body is the temple (dwelling place) of the Holy Spirit, then God is always with you! If God was physically walking with you through this next week, what is one thing you would change?

  6. If you compared your body to a high-power performance engine, how would you describe the fuel you are putting into it? What needs to happen in your life and eating habits to upgrade the quality of fuel you are putting into your body?

  7. What stands in the way of you developing habits of regular physical conditioning? What can your group members do to help you develop good habits in this area?

  8. What is one way you are using your physical abilities to serve God? How would better health and a higher energy level help you in this area of service?

  9. What is one goal you will set in response to the message of this session? Who will you ask to pray for you and hold you accountable to this new goal?

  10. Name one goal you have set concerning your physical health that you have kept. How has this commitment improved your quality of life? What is one you have not kept, and how have you regretted this?
