Prayer Direction

Prayer Direction: Ask Jesus to help you see the amazing benefits and blessings that He has graciously provided you as a member of His body. Ask Him to reveal the goodness of being connected to the Body of Christ on a consistent basis through the Holy Spirit inspired writings of the Apostle Paul. Invite Him to show you some specific opportunities for growth in consistent community throughout this year.

“Live It!” Challenge

Make Christian Community a Priority: With so many competing demands on our lives and our free time, will you consider reducing your media intake (social, entertainment, sports, etc.) by one hour daily for the next 30 days. With the additional time provided, will you take one step to engage in the community of believers at Shoreline Church (Small Groups, Community Groups, Service Opportunities, etc.)

Small Group Discussion

1. Think about a time you were blessed by a church body? Describe that experience and how it impacted and shaped you as a Christ-follower.

2. What do you think of the statement “Consistent Christian community has great potential to bring out the best in you and help you grow to be more like Jesus.” Share your thoughts with the group.

3. In our self-centered and technologically-driven culture, how does regular interaction and life-sharing with other Christians run counter-culture?

4. Read: Ephesians 2:19-22. The Apostle Paul reminds us of the eternal beauty of faith in Christ and the ongoing building of His body of believers. Paul’s point? We are a building under construction and each believer is essential to the process.

5. Just as important as these words were to the widely diverse and culturally challenged Ephesians of the 1st Century, how do they still resonate with us today?

6. What would you say to someone who claims to be a Christ-follower yet believes the following about Christian community:
   • I don’t need community…I can do life on my own
   • The community doesn’t need me...It will be just fine without me
   • But I already have community --- Look at all my followers and friends on social media

7. Read: Corinthians 12:20-27. What do these verses say to us about the importance of every believer to the functionality of the Body of Christ?

8. How is your small group a living and breathing example of these verses? How do these verses counter some of the widely-held beliefs of some Christians today?

9. Read: Ephesians 6:18-20. How important is the aspect of praying for one another in the Apostle Paul’s mind? Note what Paul asked for from the believers at Ephesus.

10. Will you commit to faithfully pray for your fellow small group members and will you be more open to sharing your own prayer needs for others to pray for you? What is one step you are going to take to make this happen?
