Memorize and Reflect

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, overflowing with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:6-7)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you grow deeper in faith than you have ever gone before. Pray for a passionate love for His Word (the Bible) and commit to read the Scriptures on a daily basis, or as often as you can. Pray for Shoreline to grow in our commitment to help Christians grow into deep spiritual maturity and love for Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge

Five or More: For the next four weeks, seek to read your Bible five days a week, each week. Come up with a time that is consistent, preferably a time when you are fresh and sharp. Give God your best time, not the leftovers. Each time you read the Bible, identify one new lesson, action idea, or truth that goes deep into your heart (you might even want to write this down). If you are not sure where to begin, either use the reading guide included in our weekly sermon resources, or get one of the fifty-day reading guides at the connection center.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about how you have been taught or trained to grow in faith from childhood to today. Who taught you and what patterns and practices did you learn?

  2. What are some of the spiritual growth practices and disciples that you have tried that have been helpful and rich? Why do you think these connected for you, drew you closer to God, enriched your faith?

  3. Read: Hebrews 5:12-14. The writer of Hebrews seems discouraged and maybe even a bit frustrated with some of the people who are receiving this letter. What is the problem that is being addressed…specifically? How is this problem still around in the world and the church today?

  4. What are some of the signs that a person is not growing in spiritual maturity and that they are still an infant in faith? What are some of the things that can contribute to people staying in this state of spiritual immaturity?

  5. What are some signs and indicators that a person is growing in faith, becoming more mature in Jesus, and moving away from spiritual infancy? What are some of the practices and life-patterns that help us grow into deeper levels of spiritual maturity?

  6. Read: Acts 2:46-47. As God’s people met regularly for spiritual growth, what are some of the things they did? Why are these same practices needed for followers of Jesus today?

  7. How does our spiritual growth and maturity connect to the mission of the church and propel us forward in sharing the message and love of Jesus with our broken world? Tell about the spiritual maturity of a person who shared Jesus with you and helped you forward on your journey to the Savior. How were spiritual maturity and faithfulness to the mission of Jesus connected in this person’s life?

  8. Read: Hebrews 10:23-25. What does it mean to spur others on to love and good deeds? What are practical ways we can do this? How can you do this for the other members of your small group?

  9. What is a next step that you can take to keep growing more mature as a follower of Jesus? How can your small group members support you and help you accomplish this goal?

  10. Tell about how you have been taught or trained to grow in faith from childhood to today. Who taught you and what patterns and practices did you learn?
