Memorize and Reflect

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to deepen your love of the Bible and the truth He brings to you through it. Pray for personal discipline to read and study the Bible each day. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you act on what you learn when you read the Bible and to be a doer of God’s Word…on a daily basis.

“Live It!” Challenge

Daily Habits: Make a commitment to read the Bible every day for at least 10-15 minutes. As you read the Bible, use the simple process discussed in the Sunday sermon: Pray, Read, Study, Apply, Pray, Tell.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What is one of your favorite passages in the Bible and how has the truth in this passage impacted your life?

  2. Read: 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
How can God use the truth of His Word (the Bible) to do the following things in our lives?
    • Teach us…
    • Rebuke us…
    • Correct us…
    • Train us…
How have you experienced God doing one of these things in your life as you have read and reflected on the truth of the Bible?

  3. Read: James 1:22-25.
What can happen in our hearts and lives if all we do is read the Bible but refuse to follow what it teaches and let it shape our lives, attitudes, choices, and daily behavior?

  4. How do we gain spiritual momentum and maturity when we hear what God says in His Word and then let it shape our lives and attitudes?

  5. One of the Momentum Busters discussed in the sermon was when our lives are dominated and distracted with things that keep us from reading the Bible and really going deep into God’s Word. What are some of the things that can distract you and what can you do to avoid this thing or cut back so you have good space to meet with God and go deep into His Word? (TV, movies, video Games, social media, sports, books…other things)

  6. We discussed some Momentum Boosters. Which of these do you need to do (or do more than you have) and what step can you take in the coming days?
    • Have a Bible and read it every day.
    • Study the Bible using a good Study Bible or Commentary.
    • Share what God is teaching me in my Bible study with others.
    • Make life application daily and do what God has called me to do.
    • Use a simple process to study the Bible well.

  7. As you look back over the past six months, how are you growing in your knowledge of God’s Word and in applying it to your life? What can you do to gain momentum in this part of your spiritual development?

  8. What is one of your favorite passages in the Bible and how has the truth in this passage impacted your life?
