Memorize and Reflect

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:6-7)

Prayer Direction

Pray that we would be captivated by Christ in a way that would propel us to serve others.

“Live It!” Challenge

Think of one person in your life that you could serve this week.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What emotions might Mary and Joseph experience immediately after the birth of Jesus?

  2. What emotions would the shepherds experience when an angel suddenly appears to them?

  3. Shepherds are invited to the manger. Talk a bit about the options. Who else might have been invited?

  4. Philippians 2:7 speaks of God taking the very nature of a servant. As we follow his example, tell of a time that someone served you meaningfully.

  5. How does a servant lifestyle conflict with prevailing values in our culture?

  6. What are some obstacles to serving others?

  7. Read: Mark 10:43-45 How does Jesus pathway to greatness differ from what is commonly seen in our culture?

  8. How can you serve someone this week?
