Sermon Series: Surprised Sermon Title: Jesus Paid for All My Wrongs
Delivered On: April 9, 2017
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” ([bible]John 10:11[/bible])
Thank Jesus for being your Good Shepherd, and pray for strength and wisdom as you follow Him. Acknowledge that Jesus is your Great High Priest, and ask for a deeper awareness of the price He paid for you.
Remember What He Did - Read [bible]Isaiah 53[/bible] two or three times, and make a list of the many things Jesus did for you that were prophesied in this passage. In particular, make a list of:
- Transgressions He has taken away from you
- Peace He has given you
- Wounds He has healed
Small Group Discussion
Tell about a time you were really surprised. Describe the kind of surprises you like.
Read: Isaiah 53:3-7 What did Jesus suffer and take on himself for the sake of offering us forgiveness? Why do you think Jesus did this with such a willing heart?
What are some of the ways that we wander and go astray like sheep? How is our world wandering far from God like sheep without a shepherd?
How was Jesus like a lamb? Why do we need to get to know Jesus more as the Lamb of God?
Read: John 10:10-18 What are some of the ways that Jesus acts as a Good Shepherd in our lives? How have you experienced Jesus as your Good Shepherd over the past year?
Jesus is very clear that He laid down His life and no one took it from Him. What does this tell you about each of the following: 1) The power of Jesus; 2) The love of Jesus; 3) The humility of Jesus?
If Jesus is still the Good Shepherd today, what is one way you can follow His leading and voice more closely in the coming weeks?
Read: Hebrews 9:6-26 How is Jesus (our true High Priest) different than the earthly high priests that served in biblical times? How is His sacrifice different than all other sacrifices?
How would your life and the world be different if Jesus had not willingly laid down His own life for the sins of broken people?
What are practical ways you can express your gratitude and joy to God for the gift He has given you in Jesus?
