What is SUP?
SUP Stands for Stand Up Paddleboarding
It is different from kayaking in the sense that you are free to stand, sit, or lie down on your SUP
When does SUP meet?
Next meeting is Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 1:30 pm at Monterey Bay Kayaks Wharf#2
We meet every 2nd Saturday of the month @ 1:30pm
Where does SUP meet?
We launch from Monterey Bay Kayak located near Wharf #2. A typical outing is about 90 minutes from arrival to return. We travel out under the Wharf to the cove by Fisherman’s Wharf towards the Coast Guard within the breakwater. Typically, we will see harbor seals, plenty of sea lions, and perhaps a few sea otters. Total distance is a little over 1.5 miles but is adjusted according to the skill level of our group and the conditions of the water and the weather.
How much does it cost?
Rental fee is $35/per use. We partner with Monterey Bay Kayaks (MBK)
MBK’s rental includes paddle, life vest, and wetsuit (optional).
MBK also has an area to store personal items. We do not recommend bringing anything of value to be stored.
What is required to SUP?
A willingness to learn!
No experience is required.
However, knowing how to swim is helpful, but not required. Life vests are available as well as wetsuits when you rent. You should be in good health.
We do require that you’re healthy enough to paddle effectively in different conditions.
What should I bring?
- Clothes that can get wet
- Towel &/or Wetsuit (optional)
- Waterproof camera or case for pictures
Are we Kayak haters? NO! If you’d rather Kayak, feel free to bring your own or rent from MBK, JOIN US!!!
