Note from Pastor Shawn 9/2 10:00 AM
To the Shoreline Family
On behalf of the entire Stroud Family, we want to say thank you for your love for our family, faithfulness in prayer and willingness to help in any way for the safe return of our son, Jake who was lost in the Ventana Wilderness this weekend.
Yesterday afternoon, Jake was found by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team. Although he had become misdirected on his hike, he found a much needed water source where he spent the night awaiting morning’s light. As the sun rose yesterday morning and he heard the sounds of the Search and Rescue Team’s helicopter, he began to make his way to higher ground for observation. Around 12:30 PM, Jake was airlifted to safety and was treated for minor injuries near Lucia, CA. He was safely released to go home and is getting some much needed rest, restoration, and love from his three children and wife Kari.
What we experienced as a family during a time when we were facing one of our greatest fears, was the promise of our faith in Christ, the power of a praying church (our Shoreline Family and dozens of other church bodies around the world), the hands and feet of God’s faithful servants and those he appoints to serve and protect us, and the power, protection and provision of our faithful and good God, who protected Jake from more serious injury during multiple falls, provided a steady water source for Jake when his own ran out and allowed him to experience the love and peace of a Heavenly Father when he was alone, tired and facing an unknown and dangerous situation.
We are also deeply thankful for the hundreds of Shoreline Family members who volunteered to go out and search for Jake. Although it wasn’t needed due to the safe discovery of Jake around midday, your willingness to go and search for our son is deeply humbling and moving.
As we reflect over the last 48 hours, we are especially reminded of the words found in Psalm 18:2:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
May God bless you mightily! Thank you once again for your love and support!
Pastor Shawn and Family
