Reflecting on the Most Recent Sermon
Sermon Series: Outer Limits Sermon Title: Beyond Our Wildest Dreams…Seeing the Bigness of God’s Mission
Delivered On: November 22, 2015
But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation… (Colossians 1:22)
Pray for God to amaze you with the bigness and wonder of His vision for the people of this world. Ask God to help you take one or two little steps forward in stepping into His vision and mission. Pray for one person you love who is still far away from Jesus…cry out for their heart to open to the greatness of God’s love.
1-1-1 Prayer:Set a daily alarm for 1:00 pm. Have the name of one-person pop up on your phone (or in your heart) at that time every day. Commit to pray for that person every day for one minute at one o’clock. Pray for their heart to open to Jesus, for you to be bold as you talk about your faith, and for you to be loving in how you interact with them. Then, pray for the Holy Spirit of God to do what only God can do and draw this person toward a friendship with Jesus and repentance of sin.
Growth Group Discussion
Who are a couple of people you love and care about that you long to see place their faith in Jesus and how have you been praying for these people and helping them learn more about Jesus?
Who is one person that had a real positive impact on you becoming a Christian and what did they do that helped you move toward faith in Jesus?
Read: Ephesians 2:4-9
What is God’s part in salvation and what is our part in responding to His work and message of grace?
Read: Revelation 7:9-10
When we think about the massive nature of God’s mission to reach all tribes, people, and languages, how can this overwhelm us and even cause us to not take action? Why is it critical for us to identify small steps that we can take in the ordinary flow of life as we move forward in sharing in God’s mission?
What are specific and practical ways we can show love and care to people and how can these actions reflect the presence and care of Jesus? What can we do to make sure people know our love is an extension of God’s love for them?
What are one or two ways you can weave prayer into your daily rhythm of life and how can your group members encourage and cheer you on as you go deeper into prayer for the lost?
How did people build bridges for you to come closer to Jesus before you were a Christian? What are one or two practical ways you can begin (or continue) building bridges for the people you love to come closer to the Savior?
Tell your “Transformation Story.” In other words, tell about when you became a follower of Jesus and who shared the story of Jesus with you. Remember, as you tell your story, be sure you communicate the message of God’s love, the reality of your sin, the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus, and your step of repentance and calling out to Jesus.
Share the story of Jesus in your own words. Practice telling your group (in just a few minutes), the simple story of God’s love, our need, and the wonderful work of Jesus on the cross. If we can’t tell the story of Jesus to other committed Christians, how can we hope to share this life-saving message with people who are still far from God? So, give it a try!
