Reflecting on the Most Recent Sermon
Sermon Series: Psalms Mixtape Sermon Title: When the Going Gets Tough, God Gets Closer
Delivered On: June 25, 2017
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. (Psalm 100:1-2)
Ask God to fill you with a strong sense of awe and respect; for who He is and how He cares for you. Pray for daily confirmation that when you turn your face toward Him, He makes certain your spiritual needs are filled.
Ask God to show you verses in the Psalms that apply to your life right now. Commit to immerse yourself in those words as though they were written personally for you, to help you walk through tough times and direct you to rejoice regardless. Why? Because they WERE written for you!
Growth Group Discussion
Share about the songs in your life that have had the deepest impact. Which songs move you the most and why?
When you listen to music today, which songs capture you, grab your heart right away and evoke a joyful and happy response?
Sometimes we can be transported quickly. Is there music that, when you hear it, takes you back to another time and place? Talk about the place and time; share the story, or stories.
During musical worship, when do your spirits rise, the tears flow, thoughts turn inward? What’s it like to sing with hundreds of others in community?
Read: Psalm 33:1-3 We all like music written well and beautifully performed. God gave us the ability to hear words and notes, integrated into a beautiful whole. Describe how music impacts your walk with Jesus.
Read: Psalm 40:1-3 We may think of our heart as a place where new songs are generated. That means lyrics and melodies come to us to describe what’s happening or has happened. What might a new song say about recent events in your life? What lyrics, what type of music?
As in the life of David, talk about a time when you felt lost and fearful. How did you come through? Where was God in this time? How did you “cry out”?
How has God demonstrated his faithfulness and deliverance when you least expected it?
Read: Psalm 95:1-2 In our humanity, it’s counter-intuitive to praise God when we’re suffering. What makes it so important and effective to rejoice always and praise him regardless of circumstances?
