Reflecting on the Most Recent Sermon
Sermon Series: Sermon Title: Here and Now
Delivered On: July 26, 2015
“And my god will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Phillippians 4:19)
Ask God to help you put your trust in Him in the area of giving. As you give, God will provide for you. That can be a scary thing to do, so ask God to help you give to Him and trust that he will provide for you.
Generous and Trusting: God has promised that He will provide for you as you trust in Him. This week commit to giving a gift to God. The amount isn’t the important part, it is your heart that matters most to God. Pray and tell the Lord you are trusting Him to provide for you as you give to His work.
Growth Group Discussion
What is contentment and what is it not?
Have you found it difficult to live contentedly in every season of life? What has that looked like for you and how did you deal with it?
God has promised that when we trust Him He will provide for us. With what area of your life is it hardest to trust God? What is one step you can take to live with a more trusting heart?
In Psalm 23:4 the writer (David) says he is not afraid even though he walks through very hard and difficult times in life. What is the reason for his confidence? What does this idea mean to you?
Have you ever given something away that meant a lot to you? What were your emotions surrounding that act?
Read: Acts 16:16-26
What happened to Paul and Silas and how did they react? How do you react when life doesn’t go well even when you feel you are obeying God?
When God calls us to live generously, he does it not just because it’s the best way to live (although it is!), he does it because it best reflects who he is as a gracious and loving heavenly Father. One of the most familiar verses in the Bible is John 3:16. Notice what God did: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” In light of this truth, how does this make you want to live your life?
Read: Malachi 3:10
God tells us to test Him in what area? How does this make you feel about living a life of generous giving? How does this make you feel about trusting God to provide for you?
